Op 6 februari 2011 is het dan weer zo ver, de roeiwedstrijd van Santa Pola naar het eiland Tabarca en terug, een traject van 8,5 mijl, zo´n 14,5 kilometer. Tabarca is het eiland voor de kust van de provincie Alicante en het enige bewoonde eiland van de Comunidad Valenciana, meer over Tabarca.

Aan de wedstrijd doen er in totaal meer dan 200 sporters mee uit 18 teams, met een totaal van 21 boten. De teams komen uit de gehele Comunidad Valenciana en er zijn zelfs 2 clubs Malaga.

De deelnemers zijn: Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, RCN Gandía, RCN Oliva, RCN Dénia, Remo Dénia, RCN Calpe, CN Altea, CN Benidorm, CN El Campello, RC Regatas Alicante, CN Costa Blanca, Veteranos del Puerto de Alicante, Universidad de Alicante, CN Santa Pola, RCN Torrevieja, Cofradía de Torrevieja, Mediterráneo Málaga y CD Rebalaje de Málaga.

De boot die gebruikt wordt voor de roeiwedstrijd is boot van 370 kilo die plaats geeft aan 8 roeiers en een stuurman. Deze boot is een veel gebruikte roeiboot in de Mediterrane wateren. Zie onderstaande foto.

De wedstrijd start bij het Levante strand van Santa Pola. De route gaat van daar naar de kust van Santa Pola del Este en van daar wordt de oversteek naar het eiland Tabarca gemaakt. Eenmaal bij het eiland aangekomen roeien ze terug naar het Levante strand voor de finish.  Zie onderstaande Google Earth foto voor de route in beeld:

Wilt u eens naar deze regata als toeschouwer? Een mooie gelegenheid om de Santa Pola en haar band met de zee eens mee te maken. Door de nieuwe route langs de kust is het mooi voor toeschouwers aan land. The Santa Pola Dive-academy organizes fun trips and also courses for beginners and pro´s. The basic scuba course to get to know the dive and scuba world, diving up to 12 meter deep, the basic certificate the open water diving up to 18 meter deep. Taxi boot naar Tabarca

In de wintermaanden is een bezoek aan het eiland Tabarca ook een leuke activiteit, gedurende de dag kan je er heerlijk van de zon genieten en over het eiland wandelen. La Isla Tabarca conocida también como la Isla Plana o Nueva Tabarca, es la única isla habitada de la Comunidad Valenciana. En ella viven alrededor de 30 personas durante todo el año dedicadas principalmente a actividades relacionadas con el turismo y la pesca.

Blauwe vlag voor veilig en schoon baden

De blauwe vlag een wereldwijde waarborg voor schoon en veilig baden.  De organisatie FEE deelt sinds 1987 deze begeerde vlaggen uit aan de stranden die aan de strenge eisen voldoen. De FEE heeft wereldwijd ongeveer 3200 stranden en jachthavens bekroond met een blauwe vlag. In Spanje zijn er in 2009 maar liefst 571 stranden en havens bekroond met een blauwe vlag.

In de regio Santa Pola, Gran Alacant, El Altet en Arenales del Sol zijn de volgende stranden in het bezit van een blauwe vlag: Las Calas del Este, La Playa del Varadero, Playa Levante, Playa Tamarit, Playa El Altet, Playa la Marina en playa Pesqueres-el Rebollo. De club Nautico van Santa Pola heeft tevens een blauwe vlag en het natuurgebied el Clot de Galvani met het Carabasi strand (tussen Gran Alacant en Arenales del Sol) is ook al enige jaren in het bezit van de blauwe vlag.

De blauwe vlag is een kwaliteitskeurmerk en dient ieder jaar waargemaakt te worden door de beheerder van het strand.
