On the 31th of August 2010 the patron parties of the town of Santa Pola have started. The festivities will take place until the 8th of September 2010. We will publish here the program of the festivities in Santa Pola in 2 parts.

Parade in the Streets of Santa Pola

The festival is held in honour of the patron of the town: “La Virgin de Loreto”. During the festivities there are various impressive street parades of the Moors and the Christians, there is also a battle over the towns castle between both group, trying to concur the castle.

During the night there are parties in the bars (barracas) of the group of Moors and Christians.

Below you will find the program for the first part of the festivities held in the town during the “Fiestas en honor de la Virgin Loreto”

31st August

9.00pm Switching on of the festival street lights.
10.30pm OFFICIAL OPENING SPEECH OF THE 2010 FIESTAS, in the Courtyard of the Castle-Fortress.
After the speech, the Municipal Fishermen Stall will be inaugurated.
11.30pm Running of Bulls alt the portable Bullring, installed next to the Stella Maris Hotel.

1st September

8.00am Wake-up call (With bangers & firecrackers)
10.30am Moor’s disembarkation on Playa Levante (opposite the Town Hall), with the firing of muskets and canons.
12.00pm Musical processions, by the Moors and Christians Festivals Association, with the United Santa Pola Musical Group and ‘El Freu’ Choir. Leaves from the Town Hall.
1.00pm Firecrackers in the levelled area of the Castle.
7.00pm Collection by those in charge of the Moors and Christian’s Festival, on behalf of different Musical Groups. The Moors head to the Dock and the Christians to the Castle-Fortress. Moorish embassy forms in front of the Castle, and the Moorish ambassador, accompanied by his escort, forcefully asks for the surrender of the Christians.
‘SOSTRACA’ – Mock Battle, surrendering of the Castle, which is then taken by the Moorish Armies.
10.30pm Inauguration of Moors and Christian Street Bars (known as ‘kábilas’, ‘cuartelillos’ and ‘barracas’)

2nd September

12.00pm Musical processions, by the Moors and Christians societies, the United Santa Pola Musical Group, and ‘El Freu’ Choir.
6.30pm Collection by those in charge of the Moors and Christian’s Festival, on behalf of different Musical Groups. The Moors head to the Castle-Fortress and the Christians to the end of town.
CHISTIAN EMBASSY in front of the Castle, the Ambassador, accompanied by his assistant, undertake the surrendering of the Castle by the Moorish armies.
RECONQUEST Re-enacted battle between both sides using muskets, the Moors surrender and leave the Castle going to the Square. Christians enter the Castle.
10.30pm Moor and Christian Street Bar Fiestas.

3rd September

8.00am Wake-up call (With bangers)
16′00H.- onwards 5th Billiards Throphy Villa de Santa Pola, organised by Santa Pola Billiards Club. (Industrial area In-2 C/Marineros)
7.30pm Parade by the musical groups who participated in the Moors and Christians Conquest/Reconquest, from Calle Muelle to the ‘Palmeral’ Park.
8.30pm MOORS & CHRISTIANS PARADE, itinerary: from the ‘Palmeral’ Park, along Calle Elche, Glorieta and Muelle.
11.00pm Moor and Christian Street Bar Fiestas.

Festival on the sea 2010

On Saturday the 7th of August on Playa La Glea in the beautiful area of Dehesa de Campoamor the “On The Sea festival 2010″ is celebrated.

The bands that are coming are: The Fall, Trans Am, Moon Duo, Wau y los Arrrghs, Jonathan Reilly, Los Platanos and DJ. Omar Leon.

Onze vrienden van Acierto Artistas hebben hard gewerkt om in de stad voor het eerst een festival te houden dat zijn plaats inneemt in het internationale circuit van festivals, straattheater en circus.
Altea is een culturele en artistieke stad (hier is ook de faculteit voor de schone kunsten aan de universiteit Miguel Hernandez gevestigd).
Een stad vol leven en charme die als gastheer fungeert gedurende drie dagen van september(11,12 en 13) voor mensen uit alle delen van Spanje.

Met een verscheidenheid aan programma’s en activiteiten en allemaal gratis, laten we jullie een onvergetelijk weekend beleven. We wonen een circus show bij, we zullen getuige zijn van divers straattheater, de vertellers plezieren ons met hun verhalen,…… maar ook kunnen we deelnemen aan vele workshops en activiteiten.

Blauwe vlag voor veilig en schoon baden

De blauwe vlag een wereldwijde waarborg voor schoon en veilig baden.  De organisatie FEE deelt sinds 1987 deze begeerde vlaggen uit aan de stranden die aan de strenge eisen voldoen. De FEE heeft wereldwijd ongeveer 3200 stranden en jachthavens bekroond met een blauwe vlag. In Spanje zijn er in 2009 maar liefst 571 stranden en havens bekroond met een blauwe vlag.

In de regio Santa Pola, Gran Alacant, El Altet en Arenales del Sol zijn de volgende stranden in het bezit van een blauwe vlag: Las Calas del Este, La Playa del Varadero, Playa Levante, Playa Tamarit, Playa El Altet, Playa la Marina en playa Pesqueres-el Rebollo. De club Nautico van Santa Pola heeft tevens een blauwe vlag en het natuurgebied el Clot de Galvani met het Carabasi strand (tussen Gran Alacant en Arenales del Sol) is ook al enige jaren in het bezit van de blauwe vlag.

De blauwe vlag is een kwaliteitskeurmerk en dient ieder jaar waargemaakt te worden door de beheerder van het strand.
