Dama de Elche

The typical Spanish scenes and landscapes have inspired the artists from all over the World for many years.  George Browell is a painter that lives partly in the UK and partly in Spain, Costa Blanca, and dedicates part of his work to painting Spanish scenes in oil and watercolour paintings.

Above you see the famous “Dama de Elche” that is so typical for the Alicante region, painted in watercolour.

George Browell has an exhition in “la Casa de Cultura” in Santa Pola from May until June, visit the website of the Casa de Cultura for the exact dates of this exhibition. The “Casa de Cultura” is located in the centre of Santa Pola, see map.

Guadalest, Costa Blanca

Another famous location of the county of Alicante is the historical town of Guadalest, George Browell has on his website various watercolour paintings of the town of Guadalest. Everybody who has visited this lovely historical town will remember the great views and scenes from the past. The paintings of George Browell show very well the historical castle and a lovely view from the valley on the town and the castle of Guadalest.

International library of Gran Alacant

A tribute to the Spanish hometown of George Browell, a watercolour painting of the international library of Gran Alacant. The international library of Gran Alacant is very nice located on a cliff and gives beside a great selection of international books of lovely view over the Mediterrenean sea as shown on the painting above.

Mountainhiking in Alicante

The mountain hiking sport is one of the healthiest sports. Mountain Hiking in Alicante enables you to see the wonderful nature of the Alicante province from another side through mountain paths, b-roads and old cattle tracks. The only thing you need is a couple of solid shoes, easy clothes, a backpack or bag for some food and water.
Do not forget to take the sun cream because even on a cloudy day in Alicante, you can burn easely.
In Spain, the marked paths as the Pequeno Recorrido, short routes (PR), routes of 10 to 50 km long. Some have a length less than 10 km if there is a lot of height or a difficult piece inside. The walking tours will take an average of 1-2 days. The routes are indicated by means of poles with horizontal white and yellow stripes.

In Alicante, there are several mountain hiking routes (PR Pequeno Recorrido) in or near the towns: Agres, Banyeres de Mariola, Benasau, Benifato, Biar, Bigastro, Callosa de Segura, Castalla, Castell de Guadalest, Cocentaina, Confrides, Crevillent, Denia, Elda, Finestrat, Guardamar del Segura, Ibi, Xixona, L’Alfàs del Pi, Pego, Petrer, Polop, Quatretondeta and Sella.

The interior of the Costa Blanca is one of the most beautiful environments of the Mediterranean part of Spain. The landscapes, valleys and mountain areas,
with mountains up to 1500 meters, canyons, caves, archaeological sites, castles, old farms, fortreses, churches, palaces and public use buildings as: irrigation ditches, waterreserves and public laundry facilities that you can see or visit during a trip.

A mountain walk in the Costa Blanca region in Spain is a beautiful experience and we recommend everybody to try this.

Bergwandelen aan de Costa Blanca

Het bergwandelen is één van de gezondste sporten. Bergwandelen in Alicante geeft je de mogelijkheid om de prachtige natuur van de provincie Alicante van een andere kant te zien, via bergpaden, b-wegen en oude vee sporen. Het enige wat je nodig hebt is een paar stevige schoenen, gemakkelijke kleding, een rugzak of tas om wat te eten en water mee te nemen. Vergeet ook niet de zonnecreme mee te nemen want zelfs op een bewolkte dag in Alicante kan je verbranden.
In Spanje zijn de bewegwijzerde paden zoals de Pequeño Recorrido, de korte routes (PR), routes van 10 tot 50 km lang. Sommige hebben een lengte minder dan 10 km indien er erg veel hoogteverschil is of een moeilijk stuk inzit. De looptochten duren gemiddeld 1 tot 2 dagen.
